Flat Plans of Website Design Ideas

I have put together a flat plan of my initial idea for a website design...

Home Page...

The flat plan is for the home page of the website and uses all the regular conventions of a normal home page offering ease of navigation and a brief introduction on the channel itself, not just the site. As a human eye is drawn to the left hand side of a document be it on the internet or paper, i have included a logo in the top left corner that will instantly let the user know the site is in collaboration with the TV channel. Under the logo I have placed the navigation bar that will remain in the same place on each of the pages, linking them all together. In the centre of the page I am going to add a image of both a snowboarder and a MotoX rider but not to have a definate line between the two, just a blur to help merge the images. Over this collage there is going to be a main title of the channel, 'LIMITS' as for identification. A brief introduction and welcome to the site will be at the bottom of the page like a footer.

Off Road Page...

On the 'OFF ROAD' page I have added video slots because I have got access to home videos that will be edited and optimised specially for the site, different to the main advert. Again as mentioned on the 'HOME PAGE' I have lef the navigation bar and the logo on the left-hand side, however on the header and the right-hand column there will be a block of text describing upcoming events and information on the videos and images presented on this page only. The title of the page will be on a banner at the top right corner and this is going to give a banner effect that is partially off the page. I have chosen to do this as I feel it gives a more exotic feel to the page not just boring and bland, however I need to do this at the same time as using conventions to carry the site to success.

Off Piste...

This is the page on winter sport, Snowboarding and it allows people to view the snowboarding section to the site and channel. Once more I followed the regular conventions of a logo and navigation bar, although this is exactly the same as the previous two discussed pages, on this page I have added a new feature of rollover images. I have a video in the centre of the page, but also I have added a rollover image above and below of it. To the left and right of these features I have text boxes giving useful information on the section of the channel and also the resort that the films are shot, Valloire, France.

How to film the Snowboarding

For my main task the TV channel I plan to make is going to share the same audience as the popular sports channel, Extreme Sports. However, whereas Extreme Sports show the worlds best competing in the worlds biggest stadiums I aim to create a channel for the more amateur riders of snowboards and Moto X bikes.

To shoot the footage I need for the advert i

need to use a helmet cam for both of the chosen sports. As this is a school project and I have a

low budget I couldn't afford to buy a professional standard helmet camera. To get around this I used a hand-held camera called a 'Flip Cam'.

I found 'Flip Cam' suitable for the filming side to my coursework because it will allow me to record up to 2 hours of footage and simply transfer the footage through use of a USB socket that 'Flips' out the side of the camera. As shown in the image below...

Good Points to 'Flip Cam'

1. Small and light
2. Hours of storage
3. Easy to use
4. High standard image
5. Compatible with Mac and PC programmes
6. Doesn't blur in motion

Bad Points to 'Flip Cam'

1. Hand-held
2. Non-waterproof
3. Not very strong against impact

As the camera is only hand-held I needed to find a way to film the Snowboarding and the Moto X while riding. To do this I have come up wi

th 3 possible solutions...

Idea 1...

This idea had its up sides as it showed the v

iewers the view I get when I actually snowboard. It had decent stability but however, the downsides to this was that it compromised my line of sights which could potentially cause danger which didn't seem appropriate.

Idea 2...

This idea proved to be a very good way to film because the body provided a extremely stable way to keep the camera offering a better way to film as the image was more steady. another good point to this way of filming was that I could get a better view of the slope ahead because the way i mounted it on my head needed me to slightly look towards the floor for a better shot. Finally the best point to this method was that the strap can be tied on to my body giving the camera a much better chance to stay

on my body with all the jumps and bumps.

Idea 3...

This idea turned out to be the least suitable for the task I had in mind. Firstly because it didn't give the camera a steady shot of the slope ahead and it also didn't allow me to test it on jumps as it did not withstand any of the impact.

Action Plan

What My Advamnced Portfolio Is About...

For my year 13 advanced portfolio I am going to make a new TV channel. I will be creating 3 parts to my advanced portfolio, the 3 being... A website with 3 fully functional webpages showing video and images, all based around MX and Snowboarding. For the to subsidary tasks I am going to create a newspaper advert which needs to sum up the entire channel at a glance. The third and final part to my coursework is a double page spread from a listings magazine.

Monthly Plan

September: In the first two weeks of september I am going to start the planning for the project and also the design process for all 3 parts of the production, the webiste, advert and newspaper advert. The Mac software is going to be used for this stage as they offer a range of different programmes letting me edit video, sound and images quickly. Also another reason for me using this software is because they will all be designed on the Macs I will be able to drag and drop all of the documents into eachother which lets me create a more sucessful portfolio. Finally at in the forth week of september I will begin to gather the material for my project, this being the video and start to plan the music for the project.

October: Throughout october I will edit and put together all the material I collect. I will also start to design the website layout and the newspaper advert, including the main advert for the channel. For the advert I am going to use iMovie on the Macs. For the newspaper adver I am going to use the pages programme. And finally the website I am going to use the Dreamweaver software from Adobe.

January: To start the new year I am going to carry on with putting more material together as I feel that I need more to bulk out the website, I am also going to include rollover images as I feel they offer added effect of professionalism to the project.

Im March, April and May I am going to touch up both my projects process and also the blogs, this is so that I have enough time to continue adding added data to help make it a more respectable piece of work.
